How does mitochondria-induced sterile inflammation affect the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps during age?

Our colleagues, in cooperation with several clinics, published an excellent work in which they showed that neutrophils of elderly patients are pre-activated for increased formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in response to mitochondria in plasma. Moreover, NETs are more oxidized and show higher resistance to degradation by DNase, and in old mice they have impaired chemotactic activity.
